I am currently in an English college course that has instructed me to created two important writing assignments. The one writing assignment was a research paper. The research process for that was pretty intensive because I chose a topic that was something rare about myself as well as being rare to the world. Among completing the research paper, I now have to complete a creative writing piece that reflects and shows readers the research in my research paper. This so far has been a bit tricky.

For my creative writing I have chosen to complete a poetry collection. I came about this idea from researching. I realized through researching on the internet that I can write different types of poems to be more creative, instead of just one type. For example, I can write an epic poem, an acrostic poem, a diamante poem, and more. The topics I want to cover will show the readers that I have used research in my research paper. I want to cover topics such as, describing what a Taino is and their features, the author’s thoughts and experiences, and more. The author’s experiences is really important because the reader will learn about what the author went through to write the research paper, as well as realizing that the author finding out that they may have Taino blood in them is part of the author’s original research, which made the research paper his/her own.

So, the writing process that I am going through has been successful. I have clear ideas and came about those ideas from researching. I hope to complete at least fifteen poems. A successful written creative piece to me would be completing the outline I have created to work off of when constructing my poems. To sum up my writing process so far is that I have the idea of a collection of poems. They will be put into subgroups. I will continue to research how to accomplish different types of poems. The ideas used in the poems are organized through an outline I created. After all the poems are done I will put them into one big collection of poems.

My creative writing will reflect my research paper in several ways. I am making the transfer through poetry so that the paper is creative. This was the main idea for my second paper. The first step I have taken so far is writing an outline. In the outline I state what aspects I want to cover that is from my actual research paper. I complete one poem. The poem describes what a Taino looks like, which was incorporated in my research paper, so that people reading my paper could have an idea what Taino’s looked like and their features. Another aspect of my research paper was the actual research process. In will create a poem describing how I felt during the process and what thw word meant to me. This is the seond poem I have been working on. I will organize my poems using my outline, which includes all the topics from my reaserach paper that I want to include. I chose many aspects from my research paper that shows the reader I used reasearch, but I will also use other aspects of the paper, like the author’s thoughts and experiences that was not included in the actual research paper. I chose to do this to bring something new to the creative writing.

Tainos: A Collections of Short Poems from Tainos and Their Culture: AN Unknown Pop. of Early Puerto Rico

Idea: To creatively represent the research I used in my research paper. This will be done through different types of poetry. Facts will be represented from the paper, along with author opinions and experiences expressed through poetry.

1 question: How will organize my poems into a collection, so it doesn’t seem slapped together?

I am a little nervous about researching how to find poems. I have already started and it is a bit difficult. The rhymes schemes that I read about confuse me. Maybe I will go to the writing lab here at the college. I started writing about 2 poems. I don’t feel like i am that creative of a person when it comes to poetry, so this nis bothering me, but atleast it is a challneg. I am also unsure of what poems i want to include in certain sections of my collection. I am just glad that Marlen asked us to cplete a n outlibne. I think it has been helping me. tHIS POETY THING IS A CHALLENGE BECUASE i am notthat creative. I hope readers will like it thouygh. I already have it planned out thst I would like to publish my creauive writing instead of my research paper. I want to publish it on poetry.com, but i will start looking for other potentional publications. The firest [poem I wrote is an acostic poem wichi i learned from researching how to do poetry on the inyternet. I am also a little nervous about the “requirements” ….there is one really. this makes it hard. I nlike to have set “rules’ and here i do not. I plan to work off my outline but I don’t know how much it will be as far as workl…i may come uyp with maybe 2 pages, while others may come up weith 10. Everyone is doing there own thing so I hope whatever i have is ok becuase i am not being lazy…i even mentioned how it is n a way a challange becuze i don’t understand poetry that much…well when it comes to constructuiong it on papaer. It can be fun to resad.

I believe there are some main issues when it comes to the creative writing process. I also feel that these issues are both different and similar. This is when I compare and contrast the processes for creative writing and research writing. These statements are only opinions of “before” thoughts, rather than “after” thoughts. I state this because I haven’t really started the process, except for brainstorming ideas

There are issues in the creative writing process that are similar to the research writing process. For example, I think one main issue is organization. I will have to organize my thoughts and poem collection in my creative writing in order for it to be successful and entertaining to readers. Another example that both papers share in common (when it comes to the writing process) is bringing something new to the topic or “making the paper your own”. This is needed to entertain the reader and having the reader wanting to read more. So both papers share similar writing processes as shown.

There are different issues in the creative writing process than the research writing process. For example, the process will let your thoughts “flow” more without being distracted in wondering if the formatting is fully correct. Another example that the creative writing process is different from the research writing process is the actual research part. When writing the research paper I had to find information through the internet, refereed journals, interviews, etc. For my creative writing my research will be from the internet because I want to learn the different styles of poetry, as well as looking at my actual research paper to try to combine the information into the poetry collection. I want to make it clear to my readers that I incorporated my research in my poetry collection.

I have chosen for my creative writing to complete a collection of different types of poetry. I realize that I will have to do research in order to complete my creative writing. This research will be similar in some ways just as much as it is different in other ways when comparing it with the type of research I did for my research paper. I believe the research I will have to conduct for my creative writing will be easier. I already have an idea on what I want to research for my creative writing as well.

The creative writing process will be similar in the way that I will search information. I want to find out the different types of poems that I can do for different aspects and points covered (Tainos) in my creative writing. Another similar process I will go through is interviewing or conversing with people into gaining new knowledge. In my creative writing I will ask for people’s opinions for my poetry, like my mother who was a main point in my research paper.

My creating writing collection of poems will be a different process in many ways. Instead of looking all over for information I will research my research paper for the information included in my poetry. Another thing that will be different is the formatting. I will not have to do APA formatting. I will get to choose how I want to construct my poems. I think I will do a specific order to the main points of each poem. For example, use information in my research’s paper introduction as the beginning of my collection and the conclusion information as the closing of my creative writing collection.

     I believe that the information from my previous research paper as well as the book I read will help me with my creative writing. My research paper was on the subject of Tainos. The book I previously read was called, “The Dancing Healers”. The book I am currently reading is called, “In Cold Blood”. All three things will help me complete my creative writing in different ways.
     The two books are helping me with my creative writing in similar ways. One way is that both books show how the author’s use research. In “The Dancing Healers” the author discusses his own life experiences in which he gains knowledge. I haven’t gotten quite far in “In Cold Blood”, but I have noticed that the author in that book has described things/experiences using terms that one can only use when learned, like medically or physically. From these books I can learn how to creatively incorporate my researched information from my research paper in a creative way. These books are basically good examples for me to get a mind set.
     My research paper will help me with my creative writing because it has all the main and important information I need to complete it. My creative writing will be a collection of all types of poetry. So, the creative writing is an imaginative and creative way of teaching its audience information that is from the research paper in a more simple way. My previous paper was on Tainos, and I believe the poetry will still teach the audience about the main subject as well as the author who shares experiences about writing the paper. The research paper is very important when it come to completing a successful creative writing piece.

     I have had several ideas for what I want to do for my creative writing. One thing I knew I didn’t want to do is write a story. The topic of my research paper is Tainos Indians. I am not that good when it comes to making up stories. Finally, I have decided that for this creative writing essay I will incorporate my researched information from the research essay and will collaborate the information through several different types of poetry. So, my ideas are based on another creative writing aspect other than writing a story.
     There will be several poems about all the key points in my paper in which I learned from research that is originally from the essay, “Tainos and Their Culture: The Rare and Unknown Population of Early Puerto Rico. I plan to include several different types of poems. For example, one poem can be an epic on the research process I personally went through. Another poem could possibly be a haiku on when Christopher Columbus first came into contact with a Taino Indian. So, the major point of the whole creative writing assignment will included many points shown through different forms of poems that will teach its readers on what was researched in the “Tainos and Their Culture: The Rare and Unknown Population of Early Puerto Rico” essay.
     Along with teaching the readers major points from the research paper I will include several personal experiences. This ranges from numerous points. One example would be including the author’s thoughts and feelings on what they went through in writing the original research paper. I will state in the creative writing essay what I learned, what information was hard to find, what information was easy to find, and more. So, there will be more in-depth thoughts on the experience that the author, personally had when they had finally learned something new. Therefore, the creative writing essay will overall include a range of things in the creative way through different types of poetry, as well as covering several points that range from the author’s experiences/feelings/opinions to key points of the original researched paper to show its readers how research was used. The audience intended for this creative writing is anyone who wants to learn about Tainos in a more simple way and for people who want to know more of the outside aspect of what it was like for the author of the original research paper.

I created a PowerPoint presentation. I created a slide for each part I believed was important that dealt with the main paper. There is a seperate slide for the intro inwhich i listed what the paper’s topic is, my thesis and main point, as well as why I chose the topic. There is a slide for the methodolgy in which I state the methods of research, such as interviews, referred journals, etc. Another slide consists of my reasearch results in which I state the topics I covered from the paper. Here, I try to teach the audience about the topic. Next, I created a slide for the discussion part of my paper. Here, I take my main research question and combine it with my research results in order to answer it. Lastly, I put a conclusion slide and state what I put in the conclusion of the paper. I sum up the key points and even state how my topic effects everyonenot just me. I plan on bringing some pictures or adding some to more slides. After using the PowerPoint I will try to leave time for interesting questions.

I have finally finished my second draft. Overall, I am still a little stressed. This is because I still have some work to do. This is due to the fact of it not being completely done yet (2^nd draft). I feel like I have learned a lot from this paper though. The most valuable things that I believe I learned is researching and structuring. I have mixed feelings of good and bad about my second draft.

The good feelings from completing the second draft deal with four main things. I am glad the majority of the paper is completed. Secondly, I am also glad I am done being stressed over the researching process. Lastly, I am happy that I actually learned something. I learned APA formatting for my major.

The bad feelings deal with several things. For instance, I am nervous I will not get my research paper published. I really want to get this specific paper published. I am nervous about the correct formatting throughout my entire paper. I want to make sure everything is correct. I guess you could call me a perfectionist at times.

I have accomplished a lot being in this class. I learned a new way of researching. This way is through referred journals. It sucks when the teacher doesn’t answer my questions, but I finally get the point of it. I also learned how to accomplish doing APA formatting, which is the required format in my field. So, I am happy with what I have learned so far in this course.

There are things that have not yet been accomplished. From this, I have a set amount of goals I hope to complete before the end of this class. One goal is to complete a ten page story that I will have to create using the information I learned from a fifteen page research paper I did on Taino Indians. The other major goal I hope to complete is getting either my ten page story published or my research paper on Tainos published. I think that getting one of the two published is good for my resume.
